Happy Earth Day, everyone!

Today (and every other day), don’t forget to take actions to protect and preserve our planet. Those small acts together can make bigger impacts than we think! What is Green Festival?

In short, Green Festival is America’s largest and longest-running sustainability and green living event! This year, Green Festival will start in New York City, then move to other big cities such as Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco.

The festival in NYC will be on April 26 and 27 at Pier 94. The event will start from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Exhibitors and vendors across the country will be showcasing their green products that doesn’t hurt the Earth. Besides, great speakers and performances are also part of the festival.

It’s April!

The first of April brings such a beautiful day in New York City. The sun is out with warmer temperatures. Flowers are about to bloom in the Union Square park. One can only hope this forever winter is about to end! Why not start your April right with our new roll and piece?

Our roll of the month includes black rice, roasted portabella, enoki mushroom, grilled oyster mushrooms marinated with balsamic and thyme. Topped with micro chives. The roll comes with balsamic truffle porcini sauce and is dusted with smoked paprika. Come try this earthy roll. If you love mushrooms, this one is for you!

Moving on to our little beautiful April piece! This baby has black rice, garlic infused mushrooms, braised in Marsala wine sauce. It comes with a balsamic truffle porcini sauce and micro chives.

It’s Kale Time

Hi vegheads, 

Many apologies for the late announcement of the March roll and piece on the blog. The roll and piece have been in our stores for a few days already. We were just so busy with the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival last weekend. To sum everything up shortly: It was an amazing event with amazing people! We were so overwhelmed with all the positive feedback and support from everyone. Our entire menu was sold out both days! We can’t wait for next year’s event. Shout out to the organizers who put together a very well-planned event.  

Back to our roll and piece announcement, if you haven’t had a chance to stop by, here they are. Spoiler alert: There’s a kale theme going on here. 



For the Roll of the Month, we have black rice, dehydrated kale, roasted sunchoke, and marinated carrots. The roll is topped with Cajun kale chip and sweet green peas mint sauce. The kale chip has a tiny bit of heat just enough to spice it up. 

If you’re not familiar with sunchoke, this root vegetable looks like ginger with the taste of potato. Sunchoke (a.k.a Jerusalem artichoke) is a great food to prevent colon cancer. Other than that, it helps lower blood pressure and decrease blood cholesterol. There are tons of health benefits of these little guys that we will cover in our future blog posts. Stay tuned for more!

Hello February!

It’s official. The first month of January has gone in a blink of an eye. Crazy, isn’t it?

Now is the time to start a fun February with us. We have some great new things at Beyond Sushi this month for you!

First, we’re so excited and happy to introduce the new roll and piece of the month. They’re both very flavorful with a hint of curry and roasted balsamic-marinated beets (don’t like beets? this may change your mind!).


The roll of the month includes black rice, chayote, avocado, roasted balsamic-marinated beets and topped with lemon-infused beluga lentils. The February roll comes with curried cauliflower purée.


The piece of the month has black rice and curried cauliflower. The sauce is roasted balsamic-marinated beets. This does not only look good but also tastes delicious! It’s packed with protein from the lentils and plenty of nutrition from the beets and cauliflower.

In other news, we plan to feature and give more information about our ingredients. Therefore, we pick Beet as our Veg Star of the Month! In the next 27 days, we’ll be posting facts and interesting information about Beets on our social media pages, so keep checking on us. It’d be fun!

Last but not least, beet will be the topic for our brand new “Cooking with Beyond Sushi” YouTube series! Beets may not be the most beloved ingredients (most of us just have no clue how to deal with them), but we hope to give beets the love they deserve this month.

Happy 2014!

We can’t believe 2013 has gone like a blink of an eye. It was a great year for us as we received tremendous support from our customers and as we expanded to catering service. We hope that you also had an awesome year too. If not, just believe that everything will be okay and keep your head up!

For 2014, our first priority is still to bring you the freshest and most delicious food. If you’re not happy with our food, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Your honest opinions and feedbacks help us improve every day.

In the new year, we also want to bring Beyond Sushi to more and more people. Keep checking with us for news and events! A new website is also in the work with a purpose of creating a seamless experience for our customers. Launch date is still up in the air, but we’re shooting for late January or early February.

And if you love our food, write us a review on Google here as we’d love to show up more on Google search. We’ll be eternally grateful!

Summer in the City…

…means vegans, vegans, vegans! 

Summer is in full swing, and if you’re looking for a way to spend these balmy…okay, sweltering days and nights, here are some fun ideas: 

Check out the NYC Vegetarian & Vegan Meetup, a Meetup group with upwards of 5,000 members that’s been going strong for 10 years! Here you’ll get the opportunity to meet other like-minded foodies, animal lovers, and general health nerds (hey, we are too) at great veg friendly restaurants and bars like Juice Pedaler and Soaked (the closest to a “healthy cocktail” that you can get!). And if you meet the love of your life, we’d love to cater your wedding!

If you’re looking to network with other ambitious Veg Heads, there’s Vegan Drinks, a monthly social networking event (like Facebook, but real life!) for folks committed to veg-related causes. This month’s Vegan Drinks is July 25th, so you have a full week to get excited!

So maybe drinking’s not your cup of kombucha, but we bet playing with animals is! Why not take a trip to the ASPCA to make some new furry friends? Or, if you’re looking to make a day of it, visit our friends at Catskills Animal Sanctuary (they recently named Beyond Sushi a Compassionate Cuisine Champion, no biggie) in Saugerties, NY. CAS is a completely free-range sanctuary for farm animals who have been rescued from cruel treatment. They offer tours, vegan cooking classes, and other great events geared toward animal rights education. 

We’ll be hard at working making fresh vegan sushi for you all summer, but we hope you check these out! And if you hear about other cool veggie events happening in NYC, let us know in the comments!
